Lamballe, Marie Thérèse Louise de Savoie-Carignan, princesse de

Lamballe, Marie Thérèse Louise de Savoie-Carignan, princesse de (märē' tārez' lwēz du sävwä-kärēnyäN', prăNses' du läNbäl') [key], 174992, devoted friend and favorite of Queen Marie Antoinette of France. Extremely unpopular, she was killed by a mob during the French Revolution in the September massacres (1792), and her head was displayed on a pike under the queen's windows.
