Barbara Walters

Walters became the first woman to anchor the network nightly news when she signed with ABC in 1976, but she cut her newsroom teeth on NBC's Today (1963–76), moving up the ladder from writer and researcher, to an onscreen Today Girl, to the morning show's first female host. She left ABC Evening News in 1979 to become a correspondent for 20/20 and eventually became its co-anchor (1984–2004). Her other television work includes The Barbara Walters Show (1992), for which she won one of her numerous Emmy Awards, and the daytime talk show The View (1998–present).
