Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn or Ryn (rem'brănt, Du. rem'bränt här'munsōn vän rīn) [key], 1606–69, Dutch painter, etcher, and draftsman, b. Leiden. Rembrandt is acknowledged as the greatest master of the Dutch school.
