Ruapehu

Ruapehu (rOOupā'hOO) [key], active volcano, 9,175 ft (2,797 m) high, on North Island, New Zealand; highest point of North Island. Ruapehu's most recent eruption cycle began in 1995. It is part of Tongariro National Park, which includes other volcanic peaks, active and inactive, and is known for its ski resorts.
