American cartoonist who created (1989) the popular comic strip “Dilbert,” which features a likeable but hopelessly nerdy engineer-office worker and exposes the absurdities of contemporary American corporate culture. There were plans in 1998 for “Dilbert” to become a primetime animated television series, to premiere in the 1998–1999 season.
