Academy Award-winning Swedish film and stage actress who often portrayed strong, sophisticated women. She won an Emmy for her portrayal of Golda Meir in A Woman Called Golda (1982). Her other films include Intermezzo (1939), Casablanca (1942) and Gaslight (1944). She was married to Italian film director Roberto Rossellini from 1949–57, with whom she had three children, including actress Isabella Rossellini.
