Homegrown Sports

These sports were invented in the U.S.:

• basketball (1891) by James Naismith in Springfield, Massachusetts
• volleyball (1895) by WG. Morgan in Holyoke, Massachusetts
• baseball (1839) by Abner Doubleday in Cooperstown, New York (although many debate the birthplace of baseball)
