Leading Industries Though the U.S. economy as a whole continues to expand, there are some parts of the economy that are growing and others that are shrinking. As you think about what area, called a sector, of the economy you would like to work in, consider which industries are expected to grow most quickly and which are likely to decline. The chart below indicates the industries that will experience the greatest percentage of jobs added or lost between now and 2006, based on U.S. Department of Labor statistics.
