Who Can Vote and Who Can Be Elected

Who Can Vote?

Anyone who is

  • 1) 18 years of age
  • 2) a citizen of the U.S. and meets the residency requirements of his or her state

Who Can Be a Senator?

Someone who is

  • 1) at least 30 years old
  • 2) a citizen of the U.S. for at least 9 years
  • 3) a resident of the state where he or she is elected.

Who Can Be a Representative?

Someone who is

  • 1) at least 25 years old
  • 2) a citizen of the U.S. for at least 7 years
  • 3)  a resident of the state where he or she is elected.

Who Can Be President?

Someone who is

  • 1) a natural-born citizen of the U.S.
  • 2) at least 35 years of age
  • 3) a resident of the U.S. for at least 14 years.
