Dominique Dawes Born: Nov. 20, 1976 Birthplace: Silver Spring, Md. American gymnast
In 1996 Dawes became the first African American to win an individual Olympic gymnastics medal (bronze on floor). She won a bronze medal as a member of the 1992 Olympic team, a gold medal as a member of the 1996 Olympic team, and was a member of the fourth-place 2000 Olympic team.
